As your Commissioner, I promise to listen and to take action on your behalf.
I started my career in service with Americorps, working with the U.S. Forest Service, and continued as a public school teacher and later as vice chair of Athens-Clarke County Citizen Advocacy. I love Athens and have always worked to help it improve, in positions such as treasurer of the Downtown Athens Business Association and an organizer for the annual winter holiday open house.
Last summer, when it was announced that the downtown 4th of July celebration had been cancelled, there was a palpable disappointment that an event which brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate our community and our nation would not go on. So I organized a petition drive that gathered 764 signatures in a couple of weeks, and drafted a letter signed by 33 downtown business owners that was printed in the Banner Herald. The campaign was successful and now the event has become a downtown tradition.
When it comes to serving my community, I have a simple formula — I care… I listen… and I act.
